Geelong Cup 2015
The Geelong Cup is a Group Three Australian horserace held by the Geelong Racing Club every October. Held at the Geelong Racecourse on the "fourth Wednesday of October", the open handicap takes place over 2400 metres and forms the prolific Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The Geelong Cup is one of the premier country cups held outside of the city during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The Geelong Cup is steeped in rich history, dating back to 1873 when Leo claimed the initial victory. At the time it was a Principal race over 16 furlongs, and didnít change structure until Australia converted to the metric system and so officially changed to 2400 metres in 1972. Seven years later the Geelong Cup was regarded as a Listed race, before finding its current Group Three status in 2002.
