The stirring skirl of the pipes, the clash of strength and skill, and the timeless beauty of Celtic music and dance are set to return to the region as the Geelong Highland Games & Celtic Festival officially prepares for its long awaited comeback.
Proudly honouring the rich heritage, traditions, and enduring pride of Scottish and Celtic culture, the renewed festival will once again bring the spirit of Scotland to life, right here in our community. From the power and pageantry of the Highland Games to the colour, music, and camaraderie that define Celtic celebration, this festival promises a vibrant gathering of culture, history, and community connection.
The revival of the Games carries deep significance. After an extraordinary 165 years of celebration, the historic Geelong Highland Gathering, one of Australia's oldest Scottish cultural events, concluded its long running chapter in 2019. For many, it marked the end of an era. But thanks to passionate community support and a shared determination to preserve this treasured tradition, its legacy has not only endured, it has been reborn.
That collective passion has led to the formation of the Geelong Highland Games & Celtic Festival Inc Committee, a dedicated group committed to restoring the event for future generations. Working in partnership with Golden Plains Shire Council and the Golden Plains Soccer Club, the committee is proud to announce that the festival will officially return on 24 October 2026, to be held in Bannockburn.
This revitalised festival will be community driven, inclusive, and ready to welcome a new generation of performers, competitors, families, and visitors, while still honouring the traditions that have shaped it for more than a century and a half.
