Public transport will be free in Victoria across metropolitan and V/Line services in the month of April.

Free public transport in Victoria through April as fuel prices continue to climb.

A taxpayer measure to provide cost-of-living relief.

The measure which the government estimates will cost taxpayers $70 million comes as fuel costs continue to rise due to supply shocks in the Middle East driving up prices on everyday goods.

It will also encourage workers in Melbourne to stay off the roads and save the much-needed fuel for farmers.

Tuesday 31st March 2026 - Thursday 30th April 2026

Myki gates will be open on all metropolitan and V/Line public transport from Tuesday. Passengers won't need to touch on or off to ride public transport during this time. Anyone who accidentally taps on will not be charged.
